Split Pea and Bottle Gourd Daal

Indian comfort food that always reminds me of home.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups cooked yellow split peas

  • 1 medium bottle gourd, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 1 small green chili pepper

  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder

  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder

  • 1 tablespoon cumin powder

  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil

  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

  • salt to taste

Steps:

Saute onion in coconut oil on high till translucent.  Add the bottle gourd and salt. Cook till it sarts getting translucent, stirring all the time.  Add the spices, cook for a minute or two.  Add the cooked split peas and some watter.  Mix, cover and cook for about 5 minutes.  Serve hot with rice or bread.

Notes:

You can substitute the bottle gourd with any gourd of pumpkin, just adjust the cooking time.
